Paula O'Neal received the WISPAN 2010 Excellence in Clinical Practice Award at the 2010 Winter WISPAN Conference in Madison. Our sincere congratulations to Paula.
This year we have a WISPAN member who has been nominated by her peers for the Excellence in Clinical Nursing Practice Award. Her peers' state:
With that said I would like to present the Excellence in Clinical Nursing Practice Award to Paula O'Neal. Congratulations!
Paula has been a long time member within the ASPAN/WISPAN organization. Paula is passionate about perianesethesia nursing. Paula sees her role as a mentor, educator, expert practitioner, and patient advocate naming a few. Paula is a role model for new staff, there to guide them, sharing the wealth of knowledge that she has acquired. Paula has been an active member of the Winter Seminar team that has provided exceptional educational offerings. Her commitment to quality and safe patient care is supported by her commitment to being certified. Even thought his certification requires continuing education, Paula would require this of herself anyway. Paula is continuously striving for excellence and education is one tool that she uses. Throughout the years Paula has been active within the WISPAN organization in several roles. She is presently WISPAN treasurer. Paula is consulted on various departmental issues. Her ability to globally review the issue, identifying plans addressing the barriers can often be described as being a change agent. She teaches and leads her unit by becoming an EPIC superuser, again indicating her commitment to quality care, mentoring, and the willingness to share knowledge. Paula is progressive in her thinking and deserves this award. Stephanie Kassulke, BSN, RN, CPAN
Paula is a dedicated nurse who gives compassionate care to all her patients. She is adaptable in working in PreOP Holding to Recovering patients in the Intensive Care. Currently she may be asked to function in six different areas. That assignment can change at a moment’s notice. She was very instrumental in developing our first computerized charting system SIS. She was a valuable asset in the transition from SIS to EPIC. She currently is helping us develop EPIC into easier intuitive environment. Paula has been a very active support of WISPAN over the years. She has served on the Board in several capacities. Currently Paula has taken over the role of Treasurer. Paula actively supports education by being an active member of the WISPAN Winter Seminar committee. She is a firm believer in national involvement in ASPAN as an active attendee of national conferences to helping with site preparation for ASPAN sponsored seminars. I couldn't think of a person more deserving of this award. Carroll Peeper RN BSN CPAN
